ELECTRICAL DEHYDRATION , REFINERY DESALTING

Dehydration of crude oil by batch treatment requires long settling , high capital investment and large  areas for the processing equipment. The use of electricity  speeds the settling process even more than heat, and allows original water has been sufficiently lowered, the oil coming from the last demulsifire to dilute the salt water droplets and to redissolve any salt crystals.  Generally, deslter is designed to reduce salt fouling of crude oil tower and feed exchanger . An added bonus of desalting is the reduction of the corrosion rate in the many corrosion control programs .
Abdulkarim has formulated range of  demulsifires for desalting crude oil in the refinery.

OVERHEAD   CORROSION  :

IN principle, the corrosion in an atmospheric distillation tower overhead system is attributed to the hydochloric acid produced by hydrolysis in the furnace of water – soluble  calcium and magnesium salts found in the crude oil and escaping the desalter . Most crude oils contain sufficient  acid to depress  overhead accumulator water to pH between 1,5and 3,5 .
This corrosive environment can be minimized by neutralizing the overhead
Water ,while simultaneously injecting film forming corrosion inhibitors.

Abdulkarim developed neutralizing agents for prevention of corrosion in the overhead systems.
